What has currently
become a fireplace made of stone was
once part of Burg Hohenecken's defensive
ditch.
While stationed with the 596th Signal
Support Company, 97th Signal Battalion,
7th United States Army between 1961
and 1962, my father, Lewis D. Whaley,
and other GIs would hike to Burg Hohenecken
from Pulaski Barracks in Kaiserslautern,
Germany.
Specialist 4th-Class Whaley remembers
spending time at Burg Hohenecken and
the defensive ditch fireplace depicted
here.
